The National Institute of Corrections is seeking partner host agencies for Thinking for a Change Training for Trainers in FY 2025. NIC will provide the training at no cost at the host agency site. Training dates will be determined together by NIC and the selected host agency. Multiple agencies will be selected. Please submit applications no later than September 15, 2024. (See “Considerations for Host Agencies” below.)
Thinking for a Change Training for Trainers allows corrections agencies to grow their trainer team, support internal sustainability of Thinking for a Change facilitator training, and increase capacity to deliver Thinking for a Change to correctional clients.
The National Institute of Corrections offers Thinking for a Change Training for Trainers to qualified criminal justice professionals or qualifying government contractors. NIC does not offer training to private or non-profit organizations.
Thinking for a Change Training for Trainers is a blended learning experience that combines virtual and face-to-face learning and totals 73 hours over six weeks:
- Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) – online sessions twice a week for 5 weeks.
- Instructor Led Training (ILT) – three and a half days of on-site, face-to-face learning.

Considerations for Host Agencies
FY2025 Thinking for a Change Training for Trainers
Class Size
30 participants per class. This is a combination of staff from the host agency and other agencies. For example, 10 participants work for the host agency and the remaining participants work for partner agencies and other agencies in the region.
Space and Equipment Requirements for Host Agency
One main training room to accommodate 30 participants and 4 trainers. (5-6 table groups and an additional table for trainers.)
Two additional breakout rooms to accommodate 10 participants and 1-2 trainers.
All three rooms will be used simultaneously for in-person teach-backs.
A/V equipment for each room to include multiple easel stands, chart pads, and markers; ceiling mount/portable projectors for slide presentations; power outlets and extension cords; and access to office equipment such as printers, copiers, etc.
Materials
NIC will provide access to the Thinking for a Change facilitator materials and Training for Trainers materials on the NIC website. Each participant or their agency will be responsible for printing all materials required for the training.
Course pre-requisites
- Applicants must be employed by or contracted with a governmental corrections agency.
- Applicants should be in teams of at least two participants (max of 3) from each agency.
- Each applicant must provide:
- Verification of minimum 32 hours of T4C Facilitator Training
- Verification of delivery of two full rounds of T4C with correctional clients
- A 5-minute video demonstrating T4C facilitation skills and curriculum knowledge
- Approval letter signed by the Agency CEO
Lodging, Food, and Travel
for FY2025 Thinking for a Change Training for Trainers
NIC provides the training at no cost (no fees or tuition to the host agency or participants). Participants and/or their agencies are responsible for transportation costs, lodging, meals, and incidental expenses related to participation in the training program.
Host Agency Application Process
Submit a formal host interest letter on agency letterhead, signed by the agency CEO, detailing interest in hosting, training facilities that meet or exceed requirements, and designating an agency point of contact to the NIC point of contact, below. Please submit applications no later than September 15, 2024.
